How does subscription work?
As with other forms of subscription (Netflix, Spotify, etc.) you simply choose the vehicle you want, the plan you want to subscribe to and then pay a weekly fee until the end of that commitment period. At the end of the period you have the opportunity to extend the subscription or simply hand the vehicle back.
What is the minimum subscription period?
Our “Freedom” plan lets you subscribe for a minimum of 4 weeks and with only a 7 day notice period required beyond week 4.
What subscription plans are available?
Subscription is intended to provide flexibility and simplicity for vehicle users and to meet that objective we have a two easy plans:
Freedom Plan – Ultimate flexibility – subscribe & drive with no tie-in beyond a 7 day notice period available at any point beyond week 4.
Term Plan – Outstanding value. Subscribe for minimum of 26 weeks and benefit from a reduced weekly payment amount.
Both our plans require a bond payment of between $500 and $2,500 (fully refundable on return of vehicle in approved condition) and include WOF, registration, on-road costs, scheduled servicing and fully comprehensive insurance.
How do I cancel my subscription?
You simply give us written notice 7 days before you want the subscription to end (so long as your minimum term commitments have been satisfied), then deliver the vehicle back to us in the condition you received it (and with the same fuel amount). We will then cancel all direct debits and your commitment is finished.
Do I need to make an upfront payment?
The only payment you need to make up front is a bond of between $500 and $2,500 (fully refundable on return of vehicle in approved condition) and the first week subscription payment in advance. Once you have done that the vehicle is yours for as long as you need.
How do you take payment?
We can take a number of payment methods for the bond and we simply set up a direct debit for the weekly subscription.
Who can drive the car?
Yourself, and anyone else named in the subscription contract completed at the time of subscription.
What if I get a speeding ticket/parking infringement notice or use a toll road?
You will be responsible for all external costs just as you would with an owned or leased vehicle. If we receive an infringement notice we will simply pass it on to you to sort out directly.
What is included in the weekly cost?
In short, everything you need to get on the road is included in the weekly price, other than the cost of fuel. The monthly premium covers WOF, rego, vehicle servicing, fully comprehensive insurance, depreciation and on-road costs.
The only time you will incur increased costs is if you exceed the kilometres agreed in your plan (don’t worry, you have multiple options available when setting up your plan). These will be charged at $0.49c per kilometre and are charged weekly.
When and how do I get my car?
Often our vehicles are available on the day, though please allow up to 48 hours in certain circumstances. We offer collection from the dealership supplying the vehicle or can deliver within Hamilton city boundary for $50 or Waikato, Auckland and Bay of Plenty regions for $300.
Can I switch cars?
Of course, once your commitment period comes to an end you are welcome to choose any other vehicle from our subscription range and re-subscribe to that one.
Who are Loopit?
Ebbett Subscribe uses the Loopit platform to carry out identity checks and complete the subscription transaction. They are a very common thrid party platform in automotive subscription and you may see them referenced on your order forms, transactions and digital communication. You can access their terms and conditions here: Loopit Terms
Can you deliver the car to me?
Yes, we can deliver within the Hamilton city limits for $50 per delivery and to Auckland region, Bay of Plenty and the Waikato for a delivery fee of $300. Unfortunately there are no delivery options for regions beyond these ones at this stage.
Why would I subscribe rather than buy or lease?
Subscription has a number of benefits over buying or leasing a vehicle. Firstly, when buying a vehicle you need to pay out a large sum of money or organise a term finance contract but when you subscribe to a vehicle you simply lodge a bond of as little as $500 (fully refundable if the car is returned in the same state as it was rented), arrange a subscription period, pay one weekly amount up front and off you go.
When leasing a vehicle you are typically tied in to a multi-year contract that will likely have a large payment at the end. A lease will also typically come with large break penalties should you wish to cancel half way through and doesn’t offer the sort of flexibility that is often required in our lives.
For both leasing and buying you still regularly have to arrange and pay for service, WOF, registration and insurance so subscription removes those issues as well.
Finally, with buying (and sometimes with leasing) you are at the mercy of depreciation – you may be very disappointed in the value of your vehicle when you come to sell it.
Can I claim vehicle subscription costs as a business expense?
If you subscribe to a vehicle that is only used for business purposes you should be able to claim the full subscription cost as a business expense. Your personal circumstances will dictate whether you can claim a business tax deduction and if the vehicle is split between personal and business use then only a percentage of the expense will be available to claim.
What insurance is included?
Ebbett Subscribe includes fully comprehensive insurance with only a $1,995 excess (collision damage contribution). This insurance is provided by the Ebbett Group so you can be sure it has an excellent range of coverage. There are no age restrictions on this insurance offer.
Can I reduce the insurance excess liability?
Yes, you can subscribe to a collision damage waiver for only $25pw. This will reduce your liability to the insurance excess from $1,995 to only $395 in the event of an insurance claim.
What happens if I have a crash or damage the vehicle?
As we have fully comprehensive insurance you would only be liable to the maximum of the insurance excess on the policy ($1995). If the cost of repairing the damage was less than the insurance excess then you would only be liable for the lower amount.
Do I have Roadside Assistance cover?
Yes, all our vehicles come with full 24/7 roadside assistance cover.
Are pets allowed in the vehicles?
Yes, we do allow pets in the vehicles but they must be transported in a crate on top of a blanket – this is safer for your vehicle and your pet.
Is subscribing more expensive than buying or leasing?
It very much depends on the specific vehicle and your personal circumstances. Subscription is certainly a great value way to easily access a near new vehicle and cannot be beaten on providing flexibility and simplicity. In some circumstances, this will also be much better value than buying or leasing – particularly when you take into account the associated costs and the risk of depreciation rates and future buyback values.
The best way to find out if subscription is your best option for mobility is to fill out our enquiry form or call our team and one of our advisers can help you with a comparison.
Are the vehicles new?
Our vehicles are all near-new, they will certainly have less than 10,000 kms on the clock when they are available for subscription. They will be presented to you after a full groom & valet so they will feel like a new car.
How old do I have to be to subscribe to an Ebbett Subscribe vehicle?
Our plans are available for all ages, the only stipulation is that you hold a full New Zealand drivers licence.
What mileage is included in the weekly plan?
Excess kms can be bought within each plan for $25 per 100km, these must be paid upfront and added to the weekly fee, only 3 packs of 100km can be bought per week making it a total of 500km a week max.
What happens if I do more kilometres than are in my plan?
Excess kilometres outside of the agreed plan will be charged at $0.49c per km and are charged per billing period.
