Ebbett Holden Grows from Delivering Excellence
/ in Company News
Where we have come from
Ebbett Motors, established in 1928, was originally sandwiched between a Chinese laundry and a gunsmith’s shop in Hood Street. The company bravely started during the world-wide depression and focused on the popular General Motors products of the time; namely Oakland, Oldsmobile and Chevrolet.
In 1952, Holden and Ebbett formed a strong partnership, the same year Holden was first imported into New Zealand. Indeed, Ebbett’s trucking business sourced and supplied some of the first milk tankers in the Waikato region.
Ebbett has a company history to be proud of, having survived depressions, recessions, world wars and stock market crashes. While the face of Ebbett has continued to evolve throughout the years the core values of the business remain the same; total emphasis on customer service and, unusually for a motor dealership, a willingness to take bold risks.
Where we are
Currently Ebbett Holden owns and operates from a 10,000m² site, located in Anglesea Street, Hamilton.
Where we are going
In 2020 the Ebbett Group has plans to truly live by their “Marque of Excellence” motto, with their all new Holden dealership set to be opened in Te Rapa. This new 25,000m2 site will allow Ebbett Holden to modernise and expand their offerings to their existing client base. At the same time allowing Ebbett to be ready for the expected growth potential predicted for the Waikato region in coming years.
Q&A with Karl Nation – Ebbett Holden Hamilton Dealer Principal
Hi Karl, what is your role at Ebbett Holden and how long have you been with The Ebbett Group?
I have been privileged to be a part of the Ebbett Holden team for 3.5 years now after returning to New Zealand from living and working in the motor industry in Australia. I started in 2016 in the role of New Car Sales Manager, and now in 2019 I am the Dealer Principal, overseeing the entire business.
What growth have you seen in the past 3 – 4 years with Ebbett Holden Hamilton?
Since I started in 2016 I have seen a great amount of growth in our business, from vehicle sales through to our aftersales offerings in spare parts and vehicle servicing. This growth has been off the back of the buoyancy of the Waikato region, but more importantly our continued growth comes from the commitment our team have to our mission, vision and core values, all of which are based around exceptional customer service.
What was the decision behind the move to Te Rapa?
The decision to move away from our CBD site certainly wasn’t easy for the owners of our business, as this current site has been the growth centre for the entire Ebbett Group of companies for so many years.
We identified a need to expand and modernise our premises, so initially the thought was to stay on the existing site in the CBD and re build. However, after doing our due diligence and looking into the potential that a new custom designed dealership could offer our business and importantly our customers, the decision was made to make the move to Te Rapa.
It will be exciting to join our other Ebbett group new dealerships in Te Rapa, and will continue to enhance the customer experience.
Are there any additional offerings for customers when you move to the new premises?
The new site will allow us to showcase our entire product range, including Holden, HSV, Chevrolet and quality used vehicles in a modern, technologically savvy environment, all under one roof.
We are also planning to offer more convenient solutions for vehicle servicing, including things like express servicing as an example.
What can people expect when they visit your new site?
The new building and grounds are going to be sensational and very client friendly, with everything vehicle related all under the one roof. Our customers will enjoy plenty of easy to find parking and drive-in service lanes as just some of the initial benefits. We will be extremely proud to host our clients in an atmosphere that is designed and built to feel very homely, with a custom built event space and a café as well.
What about the community you leave behind?
I think we’re going to leave a great legacy for the central Hamilton community with the planned development of our current CBD site. The initial plans, for a district known as ‘Union Square’, will have a mix of commercial office buildings, retail outlets, café’s and restaurants and will be state of the art. This development is exactly what Hamilton needs now and will hugely enhance our CBD.
